Teju Cole’s novel Open City was one of the most celebrated books of 2011 (winner of the Pen/Hemingway Prize and named one of the best books of the year by more than 20 publications) – and his reading at Greenlight was one of the highlights of the bookstore’s life. Now, following that success and Cole’s widely popular “Small Fates” project on Twitter (tweets about daily life in Lagos, Nigeria), Teju Cole offers Every Day Is for the Thief, a novel of a Nigerian writer living in New York City who returns to his native Lagos in search of a subject – and himself. First published in Nigeria in 2007, the novel has been expanded and revised with new photographs by Cole. The author discusses his work at Greenlight with his American editor, David Ebershoff.
